Soberlink technology brings focus to “Disease Management” vs. acute care as part of new “National Principles of Care.”

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA: Soberlink, the leader in mobile breath alcohol detection technology, announced its ongoing support of eight newly adopted principles for the treatment of alcohol addiction. These national principles, announced in November, have been adopted by 16 healthcare organizations ranging from Aetna and Beacon Health Options to Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna.

Derived from the Surgeon General’s Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health ralcoholeleased in late 2017, these “Eight National Principles” are designed to refocus efforts to treat alcoholism as a substance use disorder and provide a comprehensive view of treatment ranging from universal screening to personalized diagnosis. Of particular interest is the fourth principle that requires “continuing long-term outpatient care with home alcohol monitoring and adjustments to treatment,” according to the report.

“What is unique about this approach is that it uses technology to help an addicted person remain discreetly and conveniently connected to those who monitor and care for the patient,” said Andy Rothman, VP of Business Development. “By participating in daily check-ins using our remote alcohol breathalyzer and cloud-based technology, we can not only help SUD patients remain accountable, but also provide vital reports to doctors, therapists and family members who are lending support throughout the recovery process.”

Rothman continued, “Our commitment to connected recovery community is what drives us to develop and continually evolve our technology.” According to Rothman, Soberlink is also active in supporting research and fundraising efforts that will lead to a healthy alcohol recovery from all substance use disorders.

A complete review of these new principles can be found on the website for Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the devastation the disease of addiction causes families. According to the organization’s website, their goal is to foster a community of support to prevent addictions, enhance treatment and recovery options and advocate policy changes at the federal and state level to support a more effective “principle-based” approach to the disease of addiction.
